Evernorth Paused New Therapist Applications

By Dax EarlAugust 12, 2026

Last updated: August 12, 2026.

Short answer: Evernorth Behavioral Health temporarily paused applications from new individual and clinic providers on June 1, 2026. Its current network page says facility providers may still apply, and providers who started before June 1 should continue through the existing process. Read Evernorth’s current notice.

For therapists who have not started, this is best described as an application-intake pause—not a credentialing denial and not a conventional numbered waitlist. Evernorth asks prospective providers to complete an interest form or revisit the page after September 1, 2026.

What to do now: first determine whether your application was initiated before June 1. If it was, track that existing file. If it was not, submit the interest form, save proof, prepare your provider data, and check the official page after September 1 without assuming a guaranteed reopening date.

This article covers Evernorth Behavioral Health’s public national join-network process as of August 12, 2026. It is general operational education, not legal, contracting, benefit, or credentialing advice.

What Evernorth Has Confirmed

Evernorth’s join-network page, dated May 19, 2026, says it paused accepting new individual and clinic behavioral health applications as of June 1. It encourages those providers to complete an interest form to be contacted when the process reopens, or to revisit the page after September 1, 2026. Evernorth says the pause is temporary and connects it to a planned new application and credentialing experience in September. See Evernorth’s notice.

The same page separates two important exceptions. Facility providers may continue to apply, and individual or clinic providers who initiated the process before June 1 are not supposed to be affected. Evernorth says those earlier applications will be processed as expected.

Why Therapists May Hear “Cigna” and “Evernorth”

Cigna’s provider credentialing page says Cigna Behavioral Health changed its name to Evernorth Behavioral Health in 2021 and directs behavioral health providers to Evernorth’s process. See Cigna’s credentialing page.

That brand relationship does not make every plan identical. Before scheduling around “Cigna,” identify the exact member plan and confirm which network administers its behavioral health benefit.

Who Is Affected?

  • New individual providers: paused if they had not initiated the join-network process before June 1.

  • New clinics: also paused under the public notice. Confirm whether Evernorth classifies your organization as a clinic or a facility.

  • Facility providers: may continue applying. Evernorth defines facilities on this page as hospitals, residential settings, and programs providing partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient mental health or substance-use services.

  • Applications initiated before June 1: Evernorth says they will not be impacted and should continue processing. Do not restart them unless Evernorth specifically directs you to do so.

  • Already participating providers: the notice does not announce a termination. Directory or demographic changes follow a separate route.

What This Means for Therapists and Cash Flow

A pause changes the beginning of the credentialing timeline. If Evernorth is not accepting your provider type, there is no reliable basis for counting forward 60 or 90 days from an interest form and forecasting an in-network start date.

This matters most when a practice hires ahead of revenue. Keep a new clinician’s cash-flow forecast tied to payer effective dates that already exist. Separate patients who can be seen under confirmed contracts from prospective patients whose benefits would depend on a future Evernorth approval.

What to Do During the Evernorth Pause

  1. Place yourself in the correct lane. Record whether you are an individual, clinic, or facility and whether the join process began before June 1. Save the application, submission receipt, emails, reference numbers, and exact date.

  2. Do not restart an older application. If you initiated before June 1, Evernorth says the application is not impacted. Ask for a status update using the original NPI and TIN rather than opening a competing file.

  3. Use the official interest form if you are new. Complete the form linked from Evernorth’s notice and keep a screenshot or confirmation. An interest form shows interest; it is not an application, credentialing approval, or participation decision.

  4. Set a September review task. Revisit the official page after September 1. Check the instructions before sending anything, because Evernorth says the application experience is changing.

  5. Keep your source file ready. Maintain DataSpring, formerly CAQH ProView, plus licenses, malpractice insurance, W-9, NPI records, ownership disclosures, EFT details, and service locations. Readiness reduces avoidable delay after intake resumes.

  6. Keep statuses separate. Track interest received, application submitted, credentialing approved, contract executed, roster loaded, and participation effective as different milestones. Do not call yourself in network before the written effective date applies to the clinician, TIN, location, and product.

  7. Plan revenue without the hoped-for contract. Evaluate other appropriate payers and referral sources. If you offer private-pay or out-of-network care, verify the member’s benefits, your existing contracts, and patient-notice requirements rather than promising reimbursement.

What May Happen in September

The following is qualified inference, not a promise from Evernorth.

Evernorth says it expects a new application and credentialing experience in September. That could mean new forms, routing, documentation, or status communication. The phrase “revisit after September 1” does not guarantee that every panel will open on September 1 or that an interest-form submission will become an application automatically. Treat the official page after that date as the source of truth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Evernorth accepting new therapists right now?

As of August 12, 2026, Evernorth says it has temporarily paused new individual and clinic behavioral health applications. Facility providers may still apply, and applications initiated before June 1, 2026 are supposed to continue processing.

Is this the same as Cigna behavioral health credentialing?

Cigna directs behavioral health providers to Evernorth for the behavioral network process. Still verify the exact Cigna or Evernorth product, contracting entity, clinician, TIN, location, and effective date rather than relying on the brand name alone.

Will applications definitely reopen September 1, 2026?

Evernorth says providers can revisit its webpage after September 1 and that it expects a new application experience in September. That is not a guarantee that every provider type, geography, or application will open or be accepted on that exact day.

Can I see Cigna members as in network during the pause?

Only if you already have confirmed participation that applies to the clinician, TIN, location, product, and date of service. An interest form, application, credentialing approval, or contract without an effective date should not be treated as active in-network status.

Where Bomi Fits

Shameless plug: Bomi’s credentialing team helps therapy practices preserve application evidence, maintain payer-ready provider files, follow the new instructions when they appear, and track credentialing, contracting, roster loading, and effective dates separately. We cannot guarantee Evernorth will reopen a panel or accept an application; we can make sure your side of the process is ready and documented.

Bottom Line

Evernorth has paused new individual and clinic behavioral health applications, while facilities and pre–June 1 applications follow different paths. Put yourself in the correct lane, preserve proof, prepare your data, and recheck Evernorth’s official page after September 1 before acting on assumptions.
