Request TRICARE East Network Status

By George RuanJuly 14, 2026

Certification is only the first approval. This guide explains when and how a first-time outpatient mental health practice should submit Humana Military's TRICARE East network-interest form, what information the form asks for, and what happens next.

Google question answered: How does a mental health provider request TRICARE East network participation? After TRICARE certification is approved, submit Humana Military network participation request for Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse under the correct TIN or EIN, then wait for contracting outreach.

Editorial note: This article assumes the provider's service location belongs to the TRICARE East Region. It is independent administrative education and does not replace current Humana Military instructions, contract terms, TRICARE policy, or beneficiary-specific eligibility and authorization verification.

Confirm Certification Before Filing the Network Request

Humana Military's join-the-network page is written for providers who are already TRICARE-certified. If certification is still pending, confirm that the approved provider record contains the correct TIN, NPI, specialty, state, and location before filing the network request.

Submitting a network-interest form against incomplete or inaccurate certification data can slow the handoff to contracting. The network request should identify the same legal entity and service location that Humana Military has already certified.

Mental Health Requests Are Currently Being Accepted

Humana Military currently states that it is not accepting general requests for the medical, surgical, or ancillary networks, but it is accepting requests from Autism, Psychiatry, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Doula, and Lactation providers. Outpatient mental health practices should select the Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse option that fits the services offered.

Because network availability can change, verify the live form immediately before submission. A saved copy of an older page should not be treated as proof that Humana Military is still accepting a particular category.

Submit One Request per TIN or EIN

The current form permits only one entry per Tax Identification Number. If a request was already submitted for that TIN, Humana Military instructs the practice not to resubmit it.

For a group with several clinicians, the network request is generally organized around the contracting entity rather than a separate interest form for every practitioner. Maintain an internal provider roster so the contracting representative can see which clinicians, locations, and specialties are intended for the agreement.

Practice note: A second form is not a reliable follow-up method. Track the original submission date and contact information instead of creating duplicate TIN-level requests.

What the Network-Interest Form Asks For

The form collects enough information for Humana Military to route the request and evaluate the practice potential network role. Complete each field as it appears on the certified provider and tax records.

  • Business or group name.

  • TIN or EIN and group NPI.

  • Practice address, county, state, ZIP code, and fax number.

  • Whether the practice is already a TRICARE network provider.

  • Whether services are in person, virtual, or both.

  • Contact name, email, and phone number.

  • Any facility, hospital, IPA, PHO, or MSO affiliation requested by the form.

  • Current telemental-health capability.

  • Areas of expertise, such as anxiety, PTSD, child or adolescent care, family therapy, substance use, psychological testing, or other listed specialties.

Use the Expertise Section Strategically

Humana Military explains that expertise selections help it make appropriate referrals. Select services the practice can actually accept, staff, document, and bill. Avoid checking every option simply to appear broad.

The expertise profile should be consistent with the provider roster, licenses, age ranges, telehealth capabilities, and treatment programs. If a service requires a higher level of care or a separate facility certification, do not represent a routine office practice as that program unless the appropriate entity is certified.

Save a Clean Submission Record

The form states that a Humana Military representative will contact the practice. It does not publish a guaranteed outreach or contracting timeline. Save a screenshot or PDF of the completed form, the submission date, the name and email of the contact person, and the provider roster intended for the agreement.

Use a monitored organizational email rather than a personal inbox that may be overlooked. Contracting outreach may include requests for additional tax, roster, location, CAQH, or credentialing information.

Understand What the Form Does Not Accomplish

The form is the entry point to contracting. Network participation begins only after the required agreement, credentialing, provider loading, and effective-date confirmation are complete.

  • It does not create a contract.

  • It does not complete credentialing.

  • It does not establish a network effective date.

  • It does not guarantee that every submitted practitioner or location will be accepted.

  • It does not authorize the practice to advertise itself as in-network.

Existing Network Groups Use a Different Path

The join-the-network page states that an existing TRICARE network provider should not use this form merely to add professionals to an existing contract. Those additions should be handled through provider self-service and the established contract or provider-data process.

Network-Request Checklist

  • The provider is already TRICARE-certified under the correct TIN and location.

  • No prior network request exists for the same TIN or EIN.

  • The Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse option is selected as appropriate.

  • The business name, TIN, group NPI, address, and contact data match the certified record.

  • Telehealth and areas-of-expertise selections are accurate.

  • A copy of the submission and intended provider roster has been saved.

Key takeaway: Treat the network-interest form as a precise contracting referral. One accurate TIN-level request, backed by a clear provider roster and reliable contact information, is more useful than repeated or overly broad submissions.
